Nic Codie leads Texas in frontcourt minutes

Another player for the Longhorns who has really contributed more to the team during the three-game winning streak dating back to Dec. 12 vs. New Mexico State is freshman PF Nic Codie.

Codie had his first multi-point and multi-rebound game of the season in 14 minutes off the bench in the Longhorns dominant 91-67 win over New Mexico State. He had a nice slam dunk and his first career block coming off the bench for Terry and the Longhorns against New Mexico State.

He followed that up with a breakout scoring game in Texas's 121-57 win over Arkansas-Pine Bluff, scoring a game and career-high 20 points. Codie was efficient attacking the rim and spacing the floor for the Longhorns on the offensive end in his breakout game, shooting a sparkling 8-of-10 from the field, 2-of-2 from beyond the arc, and 2-of-2 from the free-throw line.

Codie continued to make key plays for Texas's frontcourt rotation while the Longhorns remained shorthanded due to injuries at the forward position against New Orleans. He had three rebounds and a blocked shot in a dozen minutes off the bench as he took advantage of a smaller and less athletic Privateer frontcourt in the big victory for the Longhorns.

The growing role and impact Codie's presence in the frontcourt has on the bigs in recent live-game action has given hope for the long-term depth and bench competitiveness for the Longhorns down low entering SEC play.
