No. 1 Texas football and head coach Steve Sarkisian got multiple key players from back injuries on each side of the ball for the Red River Rivalry game in Dallas last weekend against the No. 18 Oklahoma Sooners.

Two Texas football key players injured in the Red River win over OU in Week 7

Redshirt junior quarterback Quinn Ewers returned for his first start for the Longhorns' offense since Week 3 against UTSA. He helped lead Texas to a dominant 34-3 victory over Oklahoma in Red River at the Cotton Bowl in Dallas on Oct. 12, despite having to overcome a slow start on offense.

Texas's depth and talent came to the forefront in the Red River win over the Sooners last weekend. Head coach Steve Sarkisian and the Longhorns not only flexed their talent on each side of the ball in the 31-point victory over Oklahoma on Oct. 12, but they also showed the importance of having strong depth (especially at the skill positions).

The Longhorns did suffer a couple of key injuries in Red River to players on each side of the ball on the two-deep. These injuries will be important to watch for Texas heading into the highly anticipated top-five matchup in the SEC at DKR this upcoming weekend against the No. 5 Georgia Bulldogs.

Here are three key injury updates for Longhorns players entering the Georgia game in Week 8.

Michael Kern, P

True freshman punter Michael Kern didn't have any punt attempts for the Longhorns special teams unit over the weekend against Oklahoma, due to an injury. On the first SEC-mandated injury report of last week for Red River, Kern was listed with a status of "questionable". He was later upgraded to "probable" a couple of days before the Red River game.

With Kern dealing with an injury, former walk-on punter Ian Ratliff handled the punting duties against the Sooners. He performed pretty well, considering the circumstances, including a 50+ yard punt to help Texas early in the first half with the field position battle against Oklahoma.

Per 247Sports, Kern is dealing with a groin injury that caused him to show up on the injury report for Red River against Oklahoma last weekend.
