Every year there are a handful of players who need to step their game up in fall camp to prove that they can be legitimate contributors in the upcoming season, and this year's no different. Though a couple of these players are still young, the 2025 offseason is a crucial time period for them to show that they belong.

DE Ethan Burke

Yes, Burke has been a productive player for Texas over the past two seasons, but he hasn't done enough to take over a starting role and "run away with it" yet. He's always been a standout rotational-level player for the Longhorns but now is the time to shine.

Texas' defensive line is loaded with talent and if Burke doesn't have an excellent camp, somebody like Colton Vasek could take over the starting role as that strong side, base defensive end for DC Pete Kwiatkowski this season.

WR Parker Livingstone

The Longhorns brought in an extremely talented group of true freshmen wide receivers this year, specifically with blue-chippers Kaliq Lockett, Jaime Ffrench, and Daylan McCutcheon.

The top three receivers are most likely set with Ryan Wingo, DeAndre Moore, and Emmett Mosley V, but it's pretty much a wide open competition for WR4 and beyond. If Livingstone has a big fall camp, he should be able to see the field quite a bit in 2025. He has excellent size at 6'4", 191 lbs. and above-average length for the position. He and Mosley V could both bring a new, sizeable dynamic to Texas' passing game this year. Having bigger targets near the endzone could help solve Steve Sarkisian's redzone scoring problem.

DT Alex January

Alex January is a very impressive athlete for his size (6'5", 310 lbs.), and the coaching staff likes him a lot. Despite the recent additions of Travis Shaw, Cole Brevard, Maraad Watson, and LaVon Johnson, if January has a nice camp, he'll likely have a sizeable role in the defensive tackle rotation in 2025.

January played in 11 games as a true freshman in 2024, recording three tackles and displaying a sneaky ability to get to the quarterback.
