Over the past couple of weeks, Texas football's coaching staff has been busy at work on the trail scouting top and emerging targets in-state from the 2026 recruiting class. Since early last week, Texas's staff has sent out multiple offers to rising targets in-state from the 2026 and 2027 cycles.

More offers being sent out for intriguing prospects for Texas football on the trail for 2026 entering the spring

One of the key areas of focus for the Longhorns' coaching staff on the trail for the 2026 class is on the defensive side of the ball for the front seven at EDGE and linebacker. Johnny Nansen and Pete Kwiatkowski, along with the rest of Texas's defensive coaching staff, has identified CenTex and the Houston areas as important offer areas for the 2026 class going into the spring evaluation in March.

Texas has also turned its attention on the trail to rising offers from states in the Southeastern United States.

Here's a look at three key new offers along the defensive front for the 2026 class that the Longhorns' staff sent out in the past week.

Calvin Thomas, LB

Four-star Houston (TX) Cy Ranch linebacker Calvin Thomas was officially offered by the Longhorns on Feb. 19. This comes a couple of months after Thomas took an unofficial visit to Texas for the first big Junior Day of the offseason on Jan. 25.

Thomas holds offers from the Wisconsin Badgers, Texas A&M Aggies, Oklahoma State Cowboys, SMU Mustangs, Texas Tech Red Raiders, and Ole Miss Rebels, among many other P4 schools.

The big 6-foot-3 and 210-pound in-state linebacker Thomas is known for his size and athleticism. He's got great length and closing speed, with more room to fill out his frame at 210 pounds currently. Thomas does a great job of contesting space and identifying the ball carrier to make the closing tackle.

Khamari Brooks, EDGE

Texas is the most recent program to throw its hat in the ring for the fast rising four-star Bogart (GA) North Oconee edge rusher Khamari Brooks. This past Wednesday, the Longhorns offered the No. 11 EGDE recruit in the nation in the 2026 class in the 247Sports Composite.

Brooks, at 6-foot-4 and 220 pounds, is one of the most athletic and proficient pass rushers from the Southeast in the 2026 class. He's extremely versatile and explosive, given that he plays both sides of the ball for North Oconee High School at tight end on offense and defensive end at the line of scrimmage on defense.

New Texas assistant coach LaAllen Clark has been one of the leading recruiters for the Longhorns with the newly offered Georgia EDGE Brooks.

Izayia Williams, LB

The newest out-of-state offer on the defensive side of the ball for the Longhorns in the 2026 class is elite high-four-star Leesburg (FL) Tavares linebacker Izayia Williams. The No. 4 linebacker recruit in the nation in the 2026 class in the On3 Industry Ranking has offers from pretty much every major blue blood college program, including the Alabama Crimson Tide, Georgia Bulldogs, Florida Gators, Oklahoma Sooners, LSU Tigers, Michigan Wolverines, and USC Trojans, among many other top schools.

Texas jumped in this recruitment pretty late, so the Longhorns' are hoping to make a big push before spring and summer visits for the elite linebacker recruit Williams from the Sunshine State. He's already got multiple official visits set for this summer in June (per On3).

Williams, at 6-foot-2 and 215 pounds, is the prototypical outside backer that PK and Nansen would love to have ranging sideline-to-sideline at the second level of their defense. He's got the tools and athletic traits to be an early-round NFL Draft pick in the future.

The commonality that exists between all these new offers on the defensive side of the ball for the Longhorns is the theme of recruiting elite and explosive athletes at multiple positions along the front seven.
