3 new portal entrants Texas is expected to target this month
Micah Hudson, WR
Texas is projected to have nine or 10 scholarship wide receivers from the current roster next year and the 2025 high school signing class from this cycle. The Longhorns also already lost a wide receiver to the portal this fall, in the former five-star recruit from DeSoto in South Dallas, Cook.
It's realistic to expect Sarkisian, Chris Jackson, and the Longhorns to pursue one (maybe two?) wide receivers from the transfer portal for the upcoming offseason. Texas returns key wide receivers like Ryan Wingo and DeAndre Moore Jr. next season, so they don't need to add many bodies to the receiving corps for 2025.
One recent portal option that emerged that the Longhorns recruited heavily from a recent high school cycle class is Texas Tech Red Raiders true freshman wide receiver Micah Hudson.
Last week, Hudson announced his intentions to enter the portal during the winter transfer window starting Dec. 9. Hudson was the highest-rated recruit in the modern era of college recruiting rankings to sign with the Red Raiders in the 247Sports Composite.
Chris Hummer of 247Sports included Texas among the "schools to watch" in Hudson's portal recruitment when the winter transfer window opens on Dec. 9. The LSU Tigers, Tennessee Volunteers, Ohio State Buckeyes, SMU Mustangs, Ole Miss Rebels, Texas A&M Aggies, and Oregon Ducks were also included among the schools expected to be interested in Hudson in the portal during the winter window.
Hudson is an extremely-talented pass-catcher who could be a high-value target on offense for Texas's starting quarterback next season, Arch Manning.
I do think Texas will take a look at Hudson in the portal when the transfer window opens early next week. But it's not a sure thing that Texas will want to take Hudson over another wideout if there's a better and more proven option out there who could make a quicker immediate impact on the Longhorns' offense in 2025.
