Damon Wilson II, EDGE (Georgia)
On3's Pete Nakos reported on Jan. 13 that Texas is pushing for the former Georgia Bulldogs sophomore transfer edge rusher Damon Wilson II to visit Austin once the dead period ends later this week on Wednesday (Jan. 15).
Wilson, a 6-foot-4 and 250-pound edge rusher and former five-star recruit, appeared in 26 games and made two starts for the Georgia front seven since 2023. He registered 26 combined tackles, seven tackles for loss, 3.5 sacks, 35 quarterback pressures, five QB hits, 16 defensive stops, two forced fumbles, and two fumble recoveries.
He made a big impact on the two games Georgia played against Texas, registering multiple sacks, two tackles for loss, a forced fumble, and a fumble recovery for the Dawgs defensive front.
Wilson has already taken visits to see the Ohio State Buckeyes and Mizzou Tigers.
Earlier this month, Texas hosted former Florida State Seminoles and Georgia junior edge rusher transfer Marvin Jones Jr. for a visit. Texas doesn't have a big need to add help at the EDGE position from the portal this offseason.
But Sarkisian and the Longhorns staff have taken the approach of pursuing the best players available in the transfer portal to improve the competition and overall talent level on the two-deep.
There is the uncertainty surrounding the return of redshirt junior edge rusher Trey Moore for the 2025 season, who could declare early for the NFL Draft this spring. Moore has one year of eligibility remaining and it sounds like the Longhorns' staff is really pushing to get him back for 2025 in the SEC.
