Quinten Joyner, RB (USC)

Texas has been patient with its portal recruiting efforts at the running back position early in this winter transfer window. Despite having multiple quality running backs with good size and power entering the transfer portal from other solid P4 and upper-tier Group of Five programs in the past week, Texas hasn't brought any transfer backs to campus for visits this month.

Manor, TX, native and former USC redshirt freshman running back Quinten Joyner checks many of the boxes that Tashard Choice, Sarkisian, and the Longhorns could use at the position for the RB room next year.

Joyner is a bigger back, at 5-foot-11 and 215-pounds, who also brings track-level speed and tremendous explosiveness out of the backfield as a dynamic skill position weapon. He has run a sub-11.0 second 100-meter dash time in the past few years.

My personal opinion is that Texas shouldn't think twice about taking a running back with the type of proven dyanmic athleticism and size who can be a bellow rusher in Sarkisian's offense, like Joyner. Last season, Joyner led the Trojans in explosive play rate, yards per carry (7.6), and rushing grade.

He averaged nearly eight yards per carry, while registering 478 rushing yards, three rushing touchdowns, 89 receiving yards, and one touchdown catch this season.

On3 reported that Joyner visited the Ohio State Buckeyes in Columbus last week. He's scheduled to make the trip to Lubbock this week to see head coach Joey McGuire and the Texas Tech Red Raiders.

We discussed on the site last week that there were reports mentioning the possibility that the Longhorns kick the tires on targeting Joyner in the portal. Texas could still push for a visit, but it sounds like Ohio State is the emerging favorite in Joyner's portal recruitment after his successful trip to Columbus in the past few days.
