While the winter NCAA Transfer Portal window is extended for players still participating in the postseason bowl games and the 12-team College Football Playoff, like Texas football, the first entry deadline for submitting paperwork is today.

Texas football's transfer window won't close until some time in January after their postseason in the College Football Playoff

Dec. 28 is the final day for most college players to submit their paperwork to enter the transfer portal during the winter window. We'll see additional names keep appearing in the transfer portal over the next few days, as compliance departments have another 48 hours to get the paperwork filed and submitted.

As head coach Steve Sarkisian and the Longhorns prepare to face the four-seed Arizona State Sun Devils in the Peach Bowl quarterfinal of the College Football Playoff next week, Texas's staff is also cognizient of what players at positions of need could be showing up in the portal.

Texas is expected to continue to pursue proven transfers in the portal at key positions of need like defensive tackle, defensive back, running back, and receiver, as more bowl games conclude in the coming days and weeks.

Here are three recent portal entrants on the final week of the full winter transfer window before the entry deadline on Dec. 28 to watch at positions of need for the Longhorns this upcoming offseason.

Terry Webb, DT (Texas State)

Former Purdue Boilermakers senior grad transfer defensive tackle Cole Brevard signed with the Longhorns via the winter portal a couple of weeks ago. Texas still needs at least two or three more transfer defensive linemen for 2025 via the transfer portal for the upcoming offseason.

With the number of proven and available multi-year starters in the transfer portal pretty limited as the winter deadline approaches this weekend, Texas's need is still apparent at the position for depth in the trenches in the SEC.

One transfer defensive tackle who checks many of the boxes the Longhorns are looking for from an experienced and proven "big human" defensive lineman is Texas State Bobcats senior grad transfer Terry Webb.

Webb was a disruptive interior pass rusher and a productive interior run stopper and two-gapper for Texas State's interior defensive line in the Sun Belt over the past two seasons. He was very reliable and productive for Texas State in two games against P4 competition since 2023, registering six defensive stops, four quarterback pressures, and one batted ball for the Bobcats.

The big 6-foot-3 and 310-pound Webb led the Texas State defense in pass rush grade this season.
