Oklahoma's receiving corps has been decimated by injuries this season. In the Sooners' last game before the bye week in Week 5 against the Auburn Tigers, all five of their starting wideouts were sidelined due to various ailments.

Wide receivers Deion Burks, Nic Anderson, Jalil Farooq, Andrel Anthony, and Jayden Gibson all missed the Week 5 game against Auburn for the Sooners' offense.

There is a chance that Oklahoma could get two of its top receivers, Burks and Anderson, back for Red River against the Longhorns this upcoming weekend. The former of those two Oklahoma wideouts, Burks, has a chance to return for the Sooners after missing the Auburn game a couple of weeks ago due to what Venables described this week as a "soft tissue" injury he suffered in the SEC opener loss to Tennessee last month.

"We'll get a couple of those guys back, pending no setbacks along the way. That's great, and they're excited. It's good to have those guys back around."

Brent Venables on WR injuries

Burks has arguably been Oklahoma's top receiving threat out of the slot when he's been healthy this season. The speedy 5-foot-9 and 190-pound slot wideout and former Purdue transfer leads the Sooners in pretty much all major receiver stat categories this season, including catches, receiving yards, and receiving touchdowns.

Given that Oklahoma's receiving corps is so banged up, and that here wasn't a ton of playmaking talent here in the first place compared to other SEC teams in this loaded conference at the position, Burks should be the primary focus for Texas's defensive gameplan in coverage for Red River.
