3-Star OL John Mills flips from Texas to Washington
According to On3's Hayes Fawcett, three-star San Francisco (CA) St. Ignatius College Preparatory offensive lineman John Mills has flipped his commitment from Texas football to the Washington Huskies.
Texas football loses another 2025 commit before signing day, 3-Star OL John Mills
Mills committed to the Longhorns over the Florida Gators, Cal Golden Bears, Nebraska Cornhuskers, and Washington in late June after summer official visits. He committed to Texas just a couple of weeks after he took his official visit to Austin on the weekend of June 14.
Washington was the school that finished in second place when Mills made his decision back in June to pick the Longhorns.
Mills told Horns247 that being closer to home on the West Coast was an increasingly important factor for his recruitment when it came down to his time to make the final decision before signing day this coming Wednesday.
He reportedly has some connections to the Washington coaching staff, including the son of former USC Trojans head coach and Huskies' offensive coordinator/offensive line coach Brennan Carroll.
After losing Mills' commitment just a couple of days before the start of the Early Signing Period on Dec. 4, the Longhorns and Kyle Flood have four offensive linemen committed to their 2025 recruiting class.
Texas's four remaining offensive line commits after losing Mills' pledge on Dec. 2 are four-star Loganville (GA) Grayson offensive tackle Nick Brooks, Cedar Hill (TX) three-star interior offensive linemen Devin and Jordan Coleman, and Port Neches-Groves (TX) three-star interior offensive lineman Jackson Christian.
Flood and the Longhorns are heavily in pursuit of the elite five-star Lewisville (TX) offensive tackle and Oklahoma Sooners commit Michael Fasusi entering signing day on Dec. 4.
Mills ranks as the No. 521 recruit nationally in the 2025 class in the 247Sports Composite, No. 40 offensive tackle, and No. 40 from California.
