Tre Johnson lights it up in the second half

Johnson nearly got the Longhorns back in this game, along with a good amount of help from Kaluma in the frontcourt, with his offensive efforts in the second half. In the first half, Johnson shot 3-of-8 from the field and 0-of-3 from beyond the arc, good for six points.

After a relatively pedestrian start for Johnson on the offensive end of the floor, at least by his usual standards this season for the Longhorns, he picked up the pace out of the gates in the second half.

Johnson took advantage of good matchups against smaller UConn guards on the perimeter and the wing. He made his first four field goal attempts in the second half. Johnson finished up with a game-high 18 second-half points on an impressive 6-of-9 shooting from the field, 3-of-5 from beyond the arc, and 3-of-4 from the free-throw line.

He keeps impressing with his offensive output against high levels of competition for the Longhorns this season.

Those 18 points are a season-high for Johnson in the second half.

Johnson and Kaluma combined for 28 of Texas's 41 points in the second half, responsible for getting the Longhorns back within striking distance at a few points down the stretch.

Texas needed more support from the other scoring guards and off-ball wings in the rotation. Johnson did a nice job distributing the ball to his teammates, tying a season-high with four assists for the talented freshman guard.

The fact that Johnson had half of Texas's eight assists as a team in this game highlights the issue that the Longhorns not only were outplayed in the paint, but also were ineffective in spreading the ball around the perimeter and inside-out from the basket area.
