3 takeaways from Texas's OT loss to UGA in SEC title game
Quinn Ewers comes out firing, but slows down in the second half
For the past two games, Ewers has looked much better coming out of the gates for the Texas offense than he did in the previous four outings in SEC play during the regular season. Ewers connected on multiple explosive passes in the first half for over 15 yards, including on a few nice completions for first downs to junior wide receiver Matthew Golden.
The first-half play where Ewers rolled out of the pocket and found Golden deep for a beautiful contested catch in the first quarter was one of the best plays I've seen from this duo this season for the Longhorns.
In the second half, Texas got a boost on offense from sophomore wide receiver DeAndre Moore Jr. Moore led the way for the Longhorns in the second half with the first touchdown catch-and-run for Texas.
But Moore's production only got the Longhorns so far. Ewers missed a few timing throws late in the fourth quarter and in overtime, which ended up costing the Longhorns big time.
The game can be summed up by the fact that Texas outgained Georgia by a margin of over 200 yards in the first half and only took a three-point lead into halftime. When Georgia started to gain the momentum in the second half, Texas couldn't hold on in the end.
Ewers and the Longhorns had a chance to win this game at multiple turns and didn't. The symptoms of Texas leaving too much meat on the bone on offense were really magnified against Georgia again.
Georgia seems to be the boogeyman for Ewers and the Longhorns this season in the SEC.
