3 takeaways from Texas's win over No. 24 Vanderbilt

The Texas Longhorns hosted the Vanderbilt Commodores at the Moody Center tonight. Madison Booker would again lead her team to an 87-66 win over the Commodores. Here are the three takeaways from the win over Vanderbilt tonight at the Moody Center.

Texas Women's Basketball took on the No. 24 Vanderbilt Commodores at the Moody Center tonight. After Texas moved to No. 4 in the top 25 rankings, tonight would be a good test to see if they deserve to move up the polls.

Madison Booker would again be unstoppable in the 87-66 win over the Commodores tonight. I don't know what switch South Carolina flipped, but Booker is back to her usual self, taking over basketball games one quarter at a time.

The Longhorns had another great start to the game and brought the defensive intensity. This was another good all-around game for the ladies tonight. We are seeing why Texas is ranked so high in the AP polls.

Tonight's win should have them ready for when South Carolina comes into town on Sunday to take on the Longhorns. That will be a must-watch game before the Super Bowl later that night. Here are the three takeaways from tonight's win over Vanderbilt.

Takeaways from Texas Women's Basketball's double-digit win over Vanderbilt: 3. Letting Mikayla Blakes score too much tonight

One of the two negatives I want to mention in the postgame article is that the Longhorns didn't guard Commodores Freshman guard Mikayla Blakes well. She was the Vanderbilt Freshman who dropped 53 points the other week.

She finished the game with 26 points against the Longhorns. With South Carolina coming to town on Sunday, Texas has to play better defense, or else they will find themselves trying to catch up to the reigning National Champions.

2. Too close for comfort in the third quarter

The second problem I had with the Longhorns tonight was they were relaxed in the third quarter. Vanderbilt got back into the game and, for a second, could have taken the lead. The Longhorns will get trampled by South Carolina if they do what they did tonight against them. It doesn't take much for a trailing South Carolina team to climb back into the game.

I'm sure Vic Schaefer will bring this up at film tomorrow because it could be the difference between winning or losing against South Carolina on Sunday.

1. Booker is back

I'm glad Booker is back to her usual self after the South Carolina game a couple of weeks ago. I don't know what happened the day after that game, but Booker has returned to being the player who dominated the Big 12 last season. She will be a factor against the Gamecocks again on Sunday. I hope she is ready for some redemption on Sunday. A revenge win in Austin would be the best way to kick off the Super Bowl festivities.
