Texas Women's Basketball took a slight detour from their inaugural SEC Schedule to take on the No. 8 Maryland Terrapins in the Coretta Scott King Classic. The Longhorns had a slow start out of the gate before Vic Schaefer fired up the team.

After the first TV timeout, the Longhorns started hitting shots and pulling away with a considerable lead. The Longhorns would win the Coretta Scott King Classic with the 89-51 win over the Terrapins. After losing to South Carolina, this felt like a redemption game against a top-ten team.

What is super impressive about today's win is the Longhorns held a top-ten team under twenty points in the first half of the game. That's impressive and feels like a second win in my book this afternoon. This should give them some momentum going into their next game against No. 17 Tennessee on Thursday.

Madison Booker had another strong game for the Longhorns this afternoon with 28 points. It was her second consecutive game in which she dominated her opponent. Let's look at the three takeaways from their statement win against the Terrapins this afternoon.

Takeaways from Texas women's basketball's thrashing of No. 8 Maryland: 3. Holding the Terrapins under twenty points in the first half

The one thing that was impressive along with the win today was the Longhorns' defense in the first half of the game. Holding a top-ten team to under 20 points in one half of a game should be celebrated.

If they had that kind of defensive performance against South Carolina, they could have pulled off an upset against the reigning National Champions. Who knows how far they will go in March if the Longhorns continue this defense?

2. Madison Booker couldn't be stopped

I almost called the fire department because Booker couldn't stop making baskets today. Booker was the leading scorer for the Longhorns against the Terrapins today. Today's version of Booker was needed against South Carolina if they wanted to upset the reigning champs.

However, in the last couple of games, Booker has returned to her usual form, where she can't stop making baskets. I'm glad the loss to South Carolina lit a fire underneath Booker.

1. Good to see Shay Holle and Taylor Jones have a good game

Shay Holle and Taylor Jones also had good games against the Terrapins. Holle finished with 12 points, while Jones finished with 13 points. It's good to see two other players help with scoring this afternoon. The Longhorns can be a top-ten threat if everyone chips in on offense.

Jones and Holle's production was why the Longhorns won big over the Terrapins today. The Longhorns return to SEC play as they take on the Tennessee Volunteers on Thursday night at the Moody Center.
