Jerrick Gibson, RB
Texas's ground game has played a huge role in helping the Longhorns' close out double-digit wins on offense in the past two weeks over Texas A&M on Nov. 30 and Kentucky on Nov. 23.
In the past two weeks, Texas has rushed for a combined over 450 yards, largely thanks to the efforts of sophomore running back Quintrevion Wisner. The breakout star at running back for the Longhorns, Wisner has rushed for over 150 yards in each of the past two games.
Texas has also received significant contributions in the rushing attack this season from junior running back Jaydon Blue and true freshman Jerrick Gibson. Blue and Gibson have combined for over 900 rushing yards and double-digit rushing touchdowns this season.
The problem for Blue and Gibson this season for the Longhorns' ground game has been managing turnovers. Blue and Gibson have both coughed up fumbles that resulted in lost turnovers for Texas's offense in plus territory in SEC play this fall.
In this game against Georgia, Texas will have to rely on its top trio of running backs to get the job done against a stout Dawgs front seven in Atlanta in the SEC title game. Wisner had a career-high of over 30 rushing attempts last weekend in the win over the Aggies in College Station.
I think it would be advantageous for Texas to rely more on Blue in the receiving game out of the backfield and Gibson running up the middle against Georgia's D-tackles to established a dynamic ground game tone this weekend. Gibson is a wrecking ball and can be really valuable for Texas's offense to keep the chains moving in short-yardage situations on key money downs.
