3 Texas players putting up big numbers through 3 games
Arthur Kaluma, F
Another important frontcourt presence for the Longhorns this season is senior transfer forward Arthur Kaluma. Texas's starting power forward this season, Kaluma is a go-to option for inside and iso scoring on the offensive end.
Behind Johnson, Kaluma is Texas's leading scorer through three games, at a mark of 13.3 points per game. He's scored in double figures in all three games early this season, including 15 points in each of Texas's last two victories over Houston Christian and Chicago State.
It's also noteworthy that Kaluma has been pretty much the total package regarding his box score production for the Longhorns in the past two games. He registered his first double-double of the regular season (15 points and 10 rebounds) in Texas's win over Houston Christian last week. Kaluma has also averaged four assists per game over the past two contests for the Longhorns.
Most of Kaluma's scoring has come from inside the paint, with some occasional deep two-point jumpers and three-point field goals.
He is easily Texas's most avid inside scoring option this season, ranking top 10 in the SEC in paint scoring (8.7 points in the paint per game).
Kaluma has also emerged as Texas's leading rebounder early this season, posting a career-high eight boards per game.
Winning the battle on the glass was a crucial fault for Terry and the Longhorns last season. The rebounding efficiency the Longhorns are getting from key guards and forwards, like Kaluma and Weaver, is a huge boost that has helped Texas win the battle on the boards in aggregate after three games.
While Kaluma has put up big numbers before, scoring in double figures in each season of his collegiate career in previous stops at Creighton (2021-2023) and Kansas State (2023-24 season), he's on pace to put up some career-best stats this year with the Longhorns. On his current pace, Kaluma would average career-highs in assists per game (2.3), rebounds per game (7.7), and a career-low in turnovers per game (1.3).
