Though Texas has indeed been performing like this year's Cinderella team, Sean Miller's group still has a few things to shore up from a consistency perspective.
In each one of the Longhorns' tournament games, one of Texas' core players has seemingly underperformed for some reason. Against North Carolina State in the play-in game, Dailyn Swain couldn't hit a basket to save his life despite taking quite a few "easy" attempts. It's most likely one of the main reasons why it was such a close game.
In the first round against BYU and A.J. Dybantsa, Jordan Pope seemingly forgot how to play basketball. He was taking really bad shots and was being incredibly dangerous with his passes, turning the ball over multiple times in big situations. The only reason he wasn't benched was that he redeemed himself with a couple of mid-game three-point makes. Thankfully, he did much better tonight, as he was probably the main catalyst for Texas on offense against the Zags. He needs to play like he did tonight for the rest of the tournament.
Against Gonzaga, Tramon Mark went absolutely cold on offense. He's been playing unbelievably well lately, consistently hitting clutch shot after clutch shot, but Gonzaga's defense was all over him tonight at the top of the key. Yes, having a defender in your face is going to cause you to have a bad night shooting the ball, but a couple of his crucial misses tonight were complete airballs.
It's pretty obvious that Texas is an incredibly dangerous team right now, and Sean Miller has them playing much better than they were in the regular season. The point is that they could be even more lethal if the consistency part were there. Each player has to play at their ceiling from now on if they want to continue on this exciting run.
