4 key injured Texas players heading into OU
Quinn Ewers, QB
Redshirt junior Quinn Ewers is expected to start for the Longhorns at quarterback after being sidelined for the past two games due to an abdominal strain injury. This could be the second time in his collegiate career that Ewers returns from an injury for the Red River Rivalry game against the Sooners.
Ewers was fantastic in his return from an injury during his first year as Texas's starting quarterback in Red River, with nearly 300 passing yards, four passing touchdowns, and one interception. Ewers and the Longhorns won a dominant effort in Red River in 2022, with a 49-0 shutout victory against the Sooners.
In Ewers' absence due to the abdominal injury, redshirt freshman Arch Manning started at quarterback for the Longhorns, including in the first-ever SEC win against Mississippi State on Sep. 28. Manning was 2-0 as Texas's starting quarterback, including wins over Mississippi State and UL-Monroe.
During his Monday press conference, Texas head coach Steve Sarkisian said that Ewers would get the start at QB if the Longhorns play against OU on Oct. 7.
"He practiced again today. I thought he looked good coming off the bye. I think if anybody benefitted from the time off, it was probably him. We’re going to monitor him daily just to kind of see how he continues to progress. But I feel good about how he was today. I feel good about him going into Saturday, but that remains to be seen."

Ewers has practiced 100 percent with Texas's first-team offense since about the halfway point of last week during the bye week. It sounds like he's confident and ready to go for his third career Red River start against the Sooners this upcoming weekend.
