4 key injured Texas players heading into Vanderbilt
Andrew Mukuba, S
Mukuba suffered a scary lower-body injury in the second half of the Longhorns' game against Georgia last Saturday. The good news regarding Mukuba's injury status is that, while the injury originally looked bad, it won't be season-ending.
Sarkisian said in his Monday press conference that Mukuba's status for the Vanderbilt game this weekend is "questionable" after he suffered the knee injury against Georgia this past Saturday night.
"He’ll be questionable this week. We’re going to have to monitor him. We do have the bye after this game before we come back, and I believe we play Florida after that. We’re just going to monitor him closely this week. I’m not going to put him back out there if he’s not ready to go knowing that I can have a couple of more weeks after this to get him healthy, a little similar to the Quinn situation. "

At the very least, Mukuba gets the extra week of rest during the bye week after the Vanderbilt game to get healthy for the Florida game on Nov. 9.
Before he suffered the injury in the second half last week, Mukuba had a big impact on Texas's defense against Georgia's passing offense. Mukuba registered his second interception of the season, along with five combined tackles, and one tackle for loss, against Georgia before the injury in the second half.
If Mukuba is out for the Longhorns' secondary against Vanderbilt this weekend, Texas will either have to rely more on true freshmen like Johnson-Rubell and Xavier Filsaime or move someone else to the safety position. Texas could move senior Jahdae Barron to safety, since he has experience playing at multiple positions in the defensive secondary for the Longhorns.
