4 key injured Texas players heading into Vanderbilt
Isaiah Bond, WR
Junior wide receiver Isaiah Bond has been dealing with an ankle injury that he suffered in Red River against Oklahoma a few weeks ago. Bond was good enough, apparently, to go for the Longhorns at the outset of last weekend's game against Georgia. He was targeted a few times, resulting in two catches for 11 receiving yards and one touchdown catch.
Bond had injured his ankle in the first half against Oklahoma in the Red River Rivalry game in Week 7. He tried to play through the ankle injury, but dinged it up further in the second half after landing on his leg awkwardly when coming down from a target from quarterback Quinn Ewers. Bond didn't return after that play with the awkward landing after the pass from Ewers in the second half vs. OU a couple of weekends ago.
Despite playing through the ankle injury in the first half against Georgia, Bond's snaps were still limited for Texas's offense. Bond took just a half-dozen offensive snaps against Georgia last weekend, well below his previous weekly average on offense of 17 snaps per game.
Bond is Texas's leading receiver this season, with 23 catches for 380 receiving yards (16.5 yards per catch) and four touchdown catches. He's also rushed for one touchdown and 51 yards on two attempts this fall for the Longhorns.
Texas targeted the running backs, tight end Gunnar Helm, and true freshman wide receiver Ryan Wingo the most in the passing game in the loss to Georgia last weekend.
