Nick Townsend, TE (Texas commit)

The only Texas commit that we know of right now in the 2025 recruiting class who is visiting Texas A&M for the Lone Star Showdown against Texas this weekend in College Station is four-star Spring (TX) Dekaney tight end Nick Townsend.

The No. 4 tight end recruit in the nation in the 2025 class in the 247Sports Composite has reaffirmed his commitment to Texas a couple of times in the past month. But that hasn't stopped Texas A&M from trying to chip away at Townsend's commitment to the Longhorns this fall on the recruiting trail.

While I could see how some Texas fans are concerned about a highly touted tight end commitment taking a visit to a rival school on the trail in the same conference in the SEC would be a worrying sign, I'm not too inclined to say that Townsend is a big threat to flip to A&M in the next week.

If Texas does defeat the Aggies in College Station this weekend, I think that's all it will take for Townsend to be 110 percent convinced that he's ready to sign on the dotted line with the Longhorns during signing day next week.

Townsend is the Longhorns' highest rated of two tight end commitments in the 2025 class. Texas also holds a tight end commitment in the 2025 class from Calhoun (GA) four-star Emaree Winston.
