4 players Texas must convince to return for 2025
Trey Moore, EDGE
I don't think the Longhorns are planning to look to the transfer portal for help at the EDGE position for the 2025 season. Last year, the Longhorns took one proven edge rusher from the transfer portal to bolster the pass rush and run defense sealing the edge, UTSA transfer Trey Moore.
Moore has been a name mentioned among the possible candidates from Texas to declare early for the 2025 NFL Draft next spring.
The numbers Moore has put up this season aren't anything to write home about for a player of his caliber. But he's been a great culture fit for the Longhorns and his impact on the defense has been rising in the past couple of months along the front seven.
"I don’t really worry too much about the statistics. I just try to come out here and play my part, playing good football to help the defense win games."
- Trey Moore
Despite the slow start statistically this season, Moore has kept working and has made a huge impact on this defensive front and the pass rush down the stretch. In the past five games, including the SEC Championship Game against Georgia, Moore has 6.5 tackles for loss, 3.5 sacks, a dozen quarterback pressures, two forced fumbles, and one fumble recovery.
Between the impact he's made on Texas's pass rush and the versatility he's shown as a playmaker coming off the EDGE and being able to play outside backer, Moore is a very valuable part of the Longhorns' defense.
Moore has one year of eligibility remaining. He could return to Texas for another season to potentially bolster his NFL Draft stock by playing more of a true outside linebacker role.
