4 reasons why Texas will beat Georgia in SEC Championship game
By Brian Sweet
Who would have thought Texas football would be in this position at the end of the season? I didn't think Texas would have the year they had this season. Even though some people, like Nick Saban, predicted the SEC would run through Austin, it felt far from happening. Texas will take on the Georgia Bulldogs at Mercedes-Benz Stadium on Saturday for the SEC Championship title. It will be one of the top conference championship games this season.
The entire Texas fanbase is excited about beating Texas A&M at Kyle Field last weekend. However, Georgia is an entirely different team than the Aggies. Georgia is the type of team where, if you blink, you'll find yourself trailing in the game. You can't turn the ball over or allow them to score touchdowns.
Texas will have their work cut out for them if they want a bye week in the College Football Playoffs. Here are the four reasons Texas will be lifting the SEC Championship above their heads on Saturday.
Why Texas football will beat Georgia in the SEC Championship Game: 4. Running game is a completely different beast
The Longhorns' running game should provide an advantage this time around against the Bulldogs. Quintrevion Wisner was a beast against the Aggies last weekend in College Station. He seems to be motivated more than ever to exact revenge against the Bulldogs for what they did in Austin earlier this season. I also think the Longhorns have created different ways of running the ball in the past weeks. That should give the Longhorns an advantage over the Bulldogs this weekend in Atlanta.
3. Defense is a lot better this time around
The Longhorns' defense is much better this time than earlier this year. You could tell the Longhorns learned a lot from their first matchup against the Bulldogs. The defense learned that they need to step it up more against tougher teams like the Bulldogs. I think that lesson has resonated a lot with the defense since the one conference loss this year. If the Longhorns have that same physicality they did in College Station, they should be lifting the SEC trophy above their heads at the end of the game.
2. The big advantage in the CFP
Another reason the Longhorns will beat the Bulldogs is the significant advantage they will earn in the College Football Playoffs. The winner of this game will likely get a week off in the playoffs.
That could be the difference between healing up players from this weekend's game or not being healthy for the first round. I think the Longhorns would benefit from that bye week compared to hosting a game in the first round of the playoffs. This advantage is another reason why the Longhorns should win against the Bulldogs on Saturday.
1. Revenge is better in a championship game
I know the Longhorns were hurting after losing to the Bulldogs in Austin earlier this season. It stinks to lose your first game of the year on your home field. What's a better way to exact your revenge than stealing the SEC Championship away from the Bulldogs?
That is another factor that will help lead the Longhorns to victory against the Bulldogs this weekend. That desire for revenge is the last reason the Longhorns will be victorious over the Bulldogs in the SEC Championship game this weekend.
