4 reasons why Texas will beat Texas A&M
By Brian Sweet
Texas Football will take on the Texas A&M Aggies this Saturday for a trip to Atlanta, Georgia, for the SEC Championship. Talk about a storyline for the first game between both teams since 2011, when Justin Tucker kicked the game-winning field goal for the Longhorns.
I know the Longhorns are ready to wreak havoc on all cylinders to get a shot at getting redemption after losing to the Georgia Bulldogs. The anticipation has grown every day until kickoff.
One of the major storylines going into the matchup is which version of Quinn Ewers will show up for Texas. During the second half against the Kentucky Wildcats, Ewers didn't want to run out of the pocket unless necessary.
Luckily, Ewers is expected to start against the Aggies, but won't be 100%. Another storyline concerns how the Longhorns will play against Aggies Freshman quarterback Marcel Reed. Here are four reasons the Longhorns should punch their ticket to the SEC Championship game.
Why Texas football will beat Texas A&M: 4. Multi-Directional Offense
The Longhorns have many ways to get the ball to key players like Junior receiver Isaiah Bond. The amount of motioning players to the other side of the field pre-snap has kept recent opponents off guard.
Take the example for the play below; look at how the Longhorns confuse the defense entirely, which allows the Longhorns to score a touchdown. If the Longhorns can keep the Aggies off guard with all their motions, they should beat them on Saturday.
3. Jaydon Blue redemption
Longhorns Junior running back Jaydon Blue has had issues handling the ball the past few weeks. It was reported Blue was carrying a football across campus this week while practicing holding onto the ball. This week, we will see another side of Blue in a crucial game against the Aggies.
Blue has been the starting running back this season and should get the start against the Aggies. I think the Longhorns will beat the Aggies because Blue learned to hold onto the ball during the week.
2. Best secondary in the conference
The Longhorns' secondary has had an excellent season against the SEC this year. They have shut down some pretty aggressive passing teams during conference play. Their ability to make sure every opposing receiver has been excellent.
While the Aggies aren't a total passing offense, they will pass the ball against the Longhorns. However, the Aggies will have some issues against the Longhorns. Turning their offense into a one-dimensional offense is another reason the Longhorns will win this week.
1. Sack party in College Station
The Longhorns' defensive line had the Wildcats scattering backward with relentless pressure. Look at Sophomore linebacker Anthony Hill Jr. getting into the backfield and taking down the quarterback. Hill and the defensive line will be aggressive against the Aggies this weekend.
Reed will have a tough time scrambling with five to seven players running after him. The Longhorns' defensive line is the final reason the Longhorns will be playing in Atlanta against the Georgia Bulldogs.
