The Longhorns kicked off spring practices today but that isn't the only exciting news within the Texas football program.

As former players storm back to Austin for Texas' Pro Day and some of the newer stars take the field for the first time in burnt orange, one big-time recruit is eying the Longhorns for one of his spring visits.

Four-star edge rusher Jamarion Carlton announced that he would take four spring visits over four consecutive weekends: the USC Trojans, the Texas A&M Aggies, the Michigan Wolverines, and the Texas Longhorns.

Carlton, who is the No. 5 EDGE prospect in the class of 2026, has received offers from the Aggies and the Horns but has yet to receive an official offer from the Wolverines and Trojans. The Texas native is projected to end up on the Longhorns' roster, according to On3.

Carlton started playing varsity football for his team as a sophomore in 2023 and continued to do so during the 2024 season. Over the last two seasons, he amassed 86 total tackles (52 solo), eight sacks, and four pass deflections.

Gabe Brooks, a 247Sports scouting analyst, said Carlton is a "physically and athletically gifted front-line defender who could play from the edge in the long run, or bulk to a true defensive lineman thanks to immense frame space."

Brooks went on to say that Carlton has surprising speed for someone of his size (6-foot-4.5, 238 pounds) as well as being physically dominant on the field.

As of now, Texas and head coach Steve Sarkisian have the No. 10 class of 2026 prospects. However, the Longhorns claimed the No. 1 class of 2025 after the most recent recruiting cycle closed, followed by the Georgia Bulldogs and Alabama Crimson Tide.

Carlton is set to take his spring visit in Austin on April 12. He has not scheduled an official visit with the Longhorns but is set to take OVs with the Baylor Bears (June 20), Texas A&M Aggies (June 12), and SMU Mustangs (June 6).
