In the first top-five matchup at DKR in nearly two decades, No. 1 Texas football hosted the No. 5 Georgia Bulldogs in an important SEC game in primetime on Oct. 19. Georgia took complete control of this game in the first half after the first five or seven minutes of quarter No. 1.

The offensive gameplan for the Longhorns was being snuffed out every step of the way by head coach Kirby Smart and the Dawgs out of the gates. Despite Texas drawing two turnovers early in the first quarter on a couple of interceptions against Georgia quarterback Carson Beck, the Longhorns' offense was unable to capitalize.

Meanwhile, Georgia converted a couple of Texas turnovers with 10 points to pull ahead by multiple possessions well before the end of the first half. Georgia also controlled the line of scrimmage from the outset of this game.

Georgia looked like the teams they had when they were winning national titles back-to-back in 2021 and 2022 with the way they played in the trenches tonight. The domination the Dawgs showed in the trenches on the defensive side of the ball in the first half even caused Texas to pull Quinn Ewers for Arch Manning at quarterback.

The momentum in this game completely flipped coming out of the locker room for the second half. Texas won the third quarter by a score of 15-0 behind a couple of nice drives and an interception by senior corner Jahdae Barron.

Georgia took the momentum back late in the second half on a long touchdown drive that extended their lead back to two possessions.

Here are four takeaways from No. 1 Texas's loss to No. 5 Georgia in Week 8.
