Texas's defensive backfield holds strong

Despite the struggles for the Longhorns defending the run against Georgia in this game, the secondary proved that it could hold its own against a very explosive Dawgs passing game. Coming into this game, Georgia and standout super senior quarterback Carson Beck were averaging over 310 passing yards per game, nearly three passing touchdowns, while completing 69 percent of their pass attempts.

Georgia's passing attack was easily the best that the Longhorns defense has faced this season. Beck is a quarterback that will be playing on Sundays in the NFL in the near future, and he showed why he is such a highly touted pro prospect at the QB position on some key third down plays in this game.

Texas's secondary helped keep them in the game, forcing multiple turnovers on interceptions from Georgia quarterback Beck. Senior safety Andrew Mukuba nabbed the game's first interception, on a nice catch to bring down the tipped ball in the first quarter.

The other two interceptions came from Barron, including on a near pick-six that was also almost called back by a controversial pass interference flag that was eventually picked up/reversed.

For the entire game, Texas's secondary held Georgia to just 175 passing yards, the second-fewest in any game for the Dawgs this season. Texas's defense also still has yet to allow 300 total yards of offense in a single game this season.

Texas's secondary proved it was elite against one of the best passing offenses in the SEC. It was just the fact that Texas's offense couldn't convert in two of the three turnovers their defense forced in this game.
