Quinn Ewers shows some rust

The start to this game for Ewers was very similar to what it looked like for the Longhorns' offense in Red River last year. Ewers threw an interception on the first possession for the Longhorns to set Oklahoma's offense up with good field position early in the first quarter.

Ewers overcame a slow start to get Texas's offense going in the second quarter. For the first time during the Sarkisian era at Texas, the Longhorns' offense didn't get a single first down in a conference game against the Sooners.

Texas got on the board in the second quarter when Ewers started to settle in more on a nicely drawn-up screen pass to senior tight end Gunnar Helm for a touchdown in the red zone. Helm had two big catch and runs on that drive for Texas's offense to get on the board in this game in the second quarter.

Helped by a couple of critical turnovers from Texas's defense forced late in the first half, Ewers and the Longhorns scored an insane 14 points in just 41 seconds near the end of the second quarter. It was the aforementioned Wisner long run for a touchdown and a nice pass from Ewers to Wingo on a key third down that went for an explosive play that helped Texas explode out to a 21-3 lead before halftime.

Despite a couple of slip-ups in the second half, Ewers made some nice plays to help the Longhorns expand the lead even further. Ewers found Helm in the fourth quarter for a nice contested catch before scoring his first rushing touchdown of the season.

Ewers looked to be in a good rhythm before Texas's big-time matchup next weekend against a top-tier SEC contender in Georgia.
