Texas's pass rush lets loose

Redshirt junior edge rusher Trey Moore led an effective Texas pass rush in this game that was relentless, collapsing the pocket against Arizona State redshirt freshman quarterback Sam Leavitt. Texas's EDGE trio of senior Barryn Sorrell, Moore, and true freshman Colin Simmons pinned their ears back against Leavitt and the Sun Devils' pass protection to disrupt the Arizona State pass game.

In the first half alone, Moore registered two sacks and three quarterback pressures.

Of the two sacks Moore had in the first half, one was a spectacular play where he got a hand on Leavitt's jersey and got him down to the ground to give the Texas offense good field position and keep the Longhorns' lead at 14 points before halftime.

That was one of multiple third-down sacks for the Longhorns on money-down failed conversions by Leavitt and the Sun Devils offense against Texas's defensive front seven.

Simmons also had multiple quarterback pressures and hits on money downs against Arizona State's pocket and Leavitt.

Texas's defense came up huge when the team needed it in the second overtime to get an interception on third-and-long when Arizona State was trying to answer the Longhorns' second OT score.

Skattebo and the Sun Devils offense gave Texas's defense all it could take, with Arizona State rushing for over 200 yards against one of the best run defenses in the SEC this season.
