Coming out of the bye week, multiple true freshmen for No. 1 Texas football and head coach Steve Sarkisian have already burned their redshirts. Texas's insanely talented and deep 2024 signing class gave Sarkisian's squad an impact boost on each side of the ball this fall.

Texas football has some key decisions to make for freshman redshirts this fall for the remainder of the regular season

Key true freshmen, such as standout edge rusher Colin Simmons, explosive wide receiver Ryan Wingo, and hard-nosed running back Jerrick Gibson, have already played five games this season. Along with a few other true freshmen for the Longhorns, there are roughly a half-dozen players from the 2024 signing class who have already passed the four-game NCAA redshirt rule this season.

The Longhorns still have a handful of other talented true freshmen who have played at least one game this season, but still have their redshirt in tact. That, along with the second half of the regular season schedule toughening up in October and November, means the Longhorns will see fewer players from the 2024 signing class getting late-game reps when Texas is up big in the second half.

Here are four true freshmen for the Longhorns who are still likely to redshirt this fall.

Freddie Dubose, WR

Freshman Freddie Dubose Jr. is one of many talented wide receivers at Texas who won't see the field much this season, either due to an injury or competition on the depth chart this fall. Dubose has been working through lingering injury issues this fall during his true freshman campaign.

Dubose and Aaron Butler are the two true freshmen wide receivers for the Longhorns who are most likely to redshirt this season since neither has played any games so far.

Next spring, Dubose, Butler, and fellow true freshman wideout Parker Livingstone will need to step up for the receiving corps in camp, since the Longhorns are expected to lose at least three starters on the two-deep to the NFL Draft next offseason.
