Freshman center Daniel Cruz had a tremendous fall camp for the Longhorns. Among Texas's freshmen along the offensive line, we heard the most positive things coming out of fall camp a couple of months ago regarding offensive tackle Brandon Baker and Cruz.

In Cruz's case, he's been taking reps at a position along the interior offensive line where there is stiff competition among more experienced and proven linemen for those practice reps. Cruz gets the opportunity this fall to learn and develop under the mentorship of a proven and high-level super senior starting center, Jake Majors.

Redshirt sophomore Connor Robertson has also taken a heap of live-game reps and has some valuable experience under his belt at the center position this fall.

It's not out of the realm of possibility, though, for Cruz to start progressing up the depth chart on the two-deep by this season's conclusion in a couple of months. Roughly two months, after a solid run during summer workouts and fall camp, it looked like Cruz was on the trajectory to potentially working his way up to a spot on the two-deep.

Since Majors is set to have exhausted his eligibility in college next offseason, Cruz will have a chance to compete for the starting job at center in camp next spring and fall. He and Robertson will duke it out for the starting reps with the first-team offensive line in camp to anchor that group at starting center.
