Trey Owens, QB

Among the four Longhorns true freshmen on this list who could still take a redshirt this season, it's either Filsaime or quarterback Trey Owens who is most at risk of burning their redshirt for their first year in college.

Both Owens and Filsaime have taken snaps in multiple games already this regular season. Owens saw action in Texas's Week 3 win over the UTSA Roadrunners at home when the Longhorns were up big in the second half. He completed two of four pass attempts for 19 passing yards, and had three rushing yards on one attempt in the 56-7 win over UTSA on Sep. 14.

Owens also took a little over a dozen offensive snaps late in the game when Texas was up big in the second half of their Week 4 win at home over ULM.

I will say that it is probably the most important for Owens to take a redshirt this year, regarding the significance of his development and time to learn the system in Sarkisian's offense for this QB room.

He can take his time to learn under more experienced and proven guys in this quarterback room, namely Arch Manning and Quinn Ewers, to prepare himself for a more significant role on the two-deep at the position potentially as soon as next year. Ewers is likely headed for the NFL Draft next spring, which means Arch will be the favorite to start next year and Owens can be the backup at QB.
