A commitment is a commitment is a commitment... until a young high school football player decides to change his mind, decommit, and commit to another program.
However, when it comes to Texas commit Easton Royal, who is one of the most highly coveted prospects in the class of 2027, he has only solidified his commitment to the Longhorns.
Despite being the center of many flip rumors, pointing to him switching his commitment to the Ohio State Buckeyes for the most part, Royal recently took another trip to Austin and only had glowing things to say about his future team.
Easton Royal solidifies his commitment to the Texas Longhorns
Following his most recent trip to see the Longhorns, Royal shared that his connection to Texas is "even stronger now after this past visit," as Orange Bloods' Jason Suchomel reported.
Royal is the No. 3 wide receiver in his recruiting cycle and is the No. 12 overall prospect in the class. When he committed to the Horns over the Buckeyes and his home-state team, the LSU Tigers, it helped to lift Texas's recruiting class into the top 20.
With just three commitments so far, it shouldn't come as a surprise that the Longhorns' class of 2027 only ranks 19th in the nation.
At this point, Royal (a four-star recruit) is joined by three-star tight end JT Geraci and three-star cornerback Karnell James, who both committed to Texas within three weeks following Royal's commitment.

They follow the Longhorns' class of 2026, which ranks second nationally, and was headlined by five-star quarterback Dia Bell (who will be throwing to Royal in just a few seasons) and five-star athlete Jermaine Bishop.
Since 2022, Texas has not seen a recruiting class fall below the top five of the national rankings, including the No. 1 class of 2025.
