5-Star Kade Phillips flips from LSU to give Texas football another elite 2025 DB commit
This is the second time that Phillips has committed to the Longhorns. He committed to Texas for the first time in early July. He wound up re-opening his recruitment in mid-to-late August. Phillips was pledged to LSU from late August until early this week before signing day (starting Dec. 4).
Phillips told Horns247 that the play of Texas's secondary on the field this fall, the development of DBs like senior Jahdae Barron, and relationships with the coaches all contributed to him recommitting to the Longhorns on Dec. 3.
"Everything they have and just seeing what they're doing with Jahdae. I have a very good relationship with coach Gideon and coach Joseph and still even coach Raymond. Those relationships and love they show me made it easier to [flip]."

Terry Joseph, Blake Gideon, and the Longhorns defensive staff wanted to add multiple lengthy defensive back prospects in the 2025 recruiting class. Texas has three lengthy and talented corner commits in the 2025 class and two blue-chip safeties (including Galveston (TX) Ball five-star Jonah Williams).
Texas has loaded up on Houston-area native defensive backs in the 2025 class at the cornerback position. Phillips re-joins fellow Houston native and three-star Missouri City (TX) Fort Bend Marshall cornerback Caleb Chester in the Longhorns 2025 class before signing day.
The Longhorns also have a commitment from Tampa (FL) Wiregrass Ranch four-star Graceson Littleton at the corner position in the 2025 class.
This fall, Phillips' stock on the trail with the major recruiting services has skyrocketed. On3 ranks Phillips as the No. 4 cornerback recruit in the nation in the 2025 class and No. 23 overall.
Texas is now one of just five college programs with at least three five-star commitments in the On3 Industry Ranking and 247Sports Composite in the nation for the 2025 class.
