A nightmare tournament draw won’t stop Texas softball’s 2026 SEC title push

The Lady Longhorns are undoubtedly built for this type of competition.

The 2026 season for Texas softball has been an excellent one, and just because the SEC Tournament bracket is chock-full of tough matchups going forward, it doesn't mean that they'll be backing down anytime soon.

Reese Atwood, Teagan Kavan, Katie Stewart, and Leighann Goode have all played a major role in leading this team to a 39-10 overall record in 2026, and they don't plan on seeing all of that hard work go to waste when it matters most.

Let's take a look at who the Longhorns could face tomorrow evening (May 7th) in game 10 of the tournament:

They're officially set to play the winner of today's Ole Miss vs. Tennessee matchup, and either team could make for a tough opponent for Texas in their first game of the tournament tomorrow.

Ole Miss IF Persy Llamas and P Emilee Boyer (West Texas A&M transfer) have been top-notch performers for the Rebels in 2026, and haven't shown any signs of slowing down as they just led Ole Miss to a victory over South Carolina in the first round on Tuesday.

Tennessee's Karlyn Pickens is one of the most prolific pitchers in collegiate softball history, and she set a new NCAA record this year with the fastest pitch ever thrown at 79.4 MPH. She's a 2x SEC Pitcher of the Year and was recently selected No.1 overall in the 2026 AUSL Draft by the Carolina Blaze.

Both of these teams are full of All-Conference and All-American level players, so the Longhorns have to be on top of their game tomorrow if they want to continue on their journey to becoming the SEC Champions in 2026.

If Texas does manage to get a nice win tomorrow, they'll most likely be set to play Oklahoma in the next round, who shouldn't have a problem getting past the winner of Georgia and LSU. The Sooners have been a juggernaut this year, so they'll undoubtedly give the Longhorns a run for their money if they make it that far.
