It has been a long time since the Texas women’s basketball team was in the Final Four. In fact, the last time the Horns made it this far in the tournament was 22 years ago in 2003. Now, with Texas back in the final rounds, two Longhorn Legends shared a special moment following the Elite Eight game.
Current Texas women’s basketball coach, Vic Schaefer, and one of the women who made the program what it is today, Jody Conradt, embraced following the Horns’ victory over the TCU Horned Frogs, capturing the hearts of Texas fans across the country.
Schaefer has been with Texas since 2020 and has taken the Longhorns to four Elite Eights over the last five seasons, and he finally broke through to the Final Four this season. Conradt, who coached the Longhorns from 1976 until 2007, led Texas to three Final Fours (1986, 1987, 2003).

Conradt led the Horns to their only national championship when she and Texas captured the title in 1986, after winning the Southwest Conference title earlier that postseason. Under the legendary head coach, Texas captured ten regular-season conference titles and nine conference tournament titles.
Since Schaefer took over, he has led Texas to two regular-season conference titles (one Big 12 and one SEC) as well as two conference tournament titles (both Big 12). As of now, the Horns are 35-3 overall.
Schaefer and the Longhorns will face the South Carolina Gamecocks in the women’s Final Four on Friday, April 4 at 6 p.m. CT. If the Horns pull off the win, Texas would be in its first National Championship since the team captured the title in 1986. The game will be broadcast on ESPN.
