After sweeping Mizzou, the Horns are flying toward another ranked SEC matchup

The Texas softball team is on a five-game losing streak but after sweeping Missouri and a mid-week game, the Longhorns will face yet another ranked SEC opponent.

The Texas softball team has dominated its season so far and has earned, and held on to, the No. 1 ranking in the nation. Most recently, the Horns swept the Missouri Tigers in a three-game conference series to extend their winning streak to five games and their record to 37-3 overall.

The Texas Longhorns will host a mid-week game against the Texas State Bobcats, who are located just down the road in San Marcos, before the Horns face yet another ranked SEC opponent over the weekend.

No. 1 Texas softball vs. No. 9 Tennessee

The Longhorns will host the Tennessee Volunteers in a three-game series in which Texas could clinch yet another win over a ranked opponent. The No. 1 Horns and the No. 9 Vols will throw out the first pitch of Game 1 on Friday, April 11, at Red & Charline McCombs Field in Austin.

If Texas can pull off another series sweep (as well as the win over Texas State), the Longhorns would improve to 41-3 overall, with just two losses against SEC opponents (then-No. 3 Florida and then-No. 18 Mississippi State).

Currently, the Horns are first in the conference standings with a 10-2 SEC record, followed by none other than the Oklahoma Sooners, who are currently 9-3 in conference play, and the Texas A&M Aggies (8-3).

The Longhorns' and the SEC's dominance

Following the series against Tennessee, Texas will face an even more difficult opponent when the Horns host the currently-ranked No. 3 LSU Tigers (April 17-19). It's hard to argue against the SEC being the most dominant conference in college softball with seven teams in the top 10 and 12 teams in the top 25.

Texas and Tennessee are scheduled to throw out the first pitch at 8 p.m. CT on Friday, April 11. Game 2 is scheduled to begin at 5 p.m. CT on Saturday, April 12, and Game 3 is set to start at noon CT on Sunday, April 13.
