It's an honor to be drafted by the Super Bowl Champions. It basically tells you that you are good enough to join an elite team. Texas Longhorns Football Safety Andrew Mukuba will begin his NFL career with the Philadelphia Eagles after being drafted by them 64th overall.
I'm sure Mukuba was happy to go to a team that plans on competing to repeat as Super Bowl Champions next season. Here's what the safety brings to the Eagles franchise.
Stats from last season
Mukuba was one of the leaders of one of the best secondaries in college football last season. He had five interceptions and 69 total tackles for the Longhorns last season.
While his interception count was low, he was a ball hawk and made plays in the secondary, giving the Longhorns a chance to win every weekend. Even though the Longhorns couldn't beat the Georgia Bulldogs, Mukuba was right in the thick of things in the secondary.
What he's bringing to the Eagles
The Eagles can expect him to compete on every play when on the field. He will do his best to make a difference despite his small size. However, his size is another concern, especially if a running back is coming right at him.
At 186 pounds, he could end up getting injured, which is a risk the Eagles are taking by drafting him. However, I think the NFC East will regret drafting him because he will be a pain in coverage. He reminds me of Cooper DeJean; no one wanted him because of his size, and he will make teams regret drafting him.
I know the Eagles will probably get him in the weight room when he signs his NFL contract. The last thing they want to have happen to Mukuba is to have a running back like Derrick Henry truck him and break some ribs.
That would end up with him having a shortened career highlighted by injuries. That's the only area of concern other than his size. Other than that, he can play the position well and track down wide receivers in the backfield.
Eagles fans are getting one heck of a competitor who will give it 110 percent on the field. The Dallas Cowboys, Washington Commanders, and New York Giants will want him out of the division after next season. Mukuba is going to a great team to help him build some muscle and develop his coverage skills. If you are on the Eagles' schedule next season, you'd better start scouting how Mukuba plays safety because he will be a pest for 60 minutes.
