There have been a lot of legendary quarterbacks to wear Texas across their chest every Saturday, and right now, Arch Manning is working to cement himself among those Longhorn Legends.
With the win over the then-No. 1 Ohio State Buckeyes, Manning became the first-ever Texas quarterback to defeat three top-10 opponents at Darrell K Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium, defending the Horns' home unlike any before him.
Even the all-time greats like Colt McCoy, Vince Young, and Bobby Layne didn't accomplish that feat, and Manning has done it in just two years.
Since becoming QB1, Manning has defeated No. 1 Ohio State (2026), No. 3 Texas A&M (2025), and No. 9 Vanderbilt (2025), putting on some of the best performances in his career to push the Horns over the top of the toughest opponents.
In fact, as the Longhorns' starting quarterback, Manning has actually gone undefeated at home, going 10-0 since taking hold of the reins of the Texas offense.
Arch Manning could cement himself among all-time great QBs at Texas
Of course, quarterbacks like McCoy, Young, and James Street took the Horns one step farther than Manning has been able to, leading Texas to the National Championship game, with Young and Street helping secure the title.
Street went undefeated as the QB1 at Texas, securing the 1969 National Championship for the program. Young earned a 24-1 record and won the 2005 title with an incredible performance over USC. McCoy went 45-8 as the Longhorns' starter, losing in the 2009 National Championship game to Alabama.
So far, Manning has gone 14-3 overall as the Longhorns' QB1, going 2-0 when he filled in for an injured Quinn Ewers in 2024 and 2-0 to start the 2026 season. In 2025, he went 10-3, with a win over the Michigan Wolverines in the Citrus Bowl.
However, with the momentum that the Longhorns currently have, in large part due to Manning's in-game production, it looks like Texas could return to the pinnacle of the sport.

If Manning is able to take Texas back to the National Championship for the first time in 17 years, he would undeniably cement himself among the all-time greats who came before him. The home-stand he has held down throughout his career would just be a side note on his resume.
There are 10 regular-season games remaining this year, and then a subsequent appearance in the SEC Championship game if Texas goes undefeated in conference play, followed by a lengthy run in the College Football Playoff if Manning wants to accomplish the next step.
