Following Texas' embarrassing loss to the Gators in week 6, HC Steve Sarkisian was asked a question regarding his team's struggles against Power 4 opponents this year. Not only was his response incredibly immature, but the way he said it was completely humiliating.
"I mean, how many teams are there in college football? 136? Take the other 135 and have them go play at Ohio State and at The Swamp, see how they do."
Excuse me? What is this even supposed to mean? You are the University of Texas, not Abilene Christian. Those other 135 football teams weren't ranked #1 in the nation at the start of the season. That's such a cop-out answer for an embarrassed head coach of a program that should've run circles around the Florida Gators on Saturday.
This Texas football team has aspirations of winning a national title this season, and these are the types of games that should be considered "gimme's" for a team with the level of talent that the Longhorns have.
Everything about this game screamed "easy win" for Steve Sarkisian and Co., but they still couldn't get the job done. The Gators' offense shouldn't have been able to move the ball at all this weekend, but Texas made a hobbled and unhealthy D.J. Lagway look like the best quarterback in college football in the second half.
Lagway was completely immobile throughout the entirety of the game, and the Gators' offensive line was awful in pass protection as of late. The Longhorns' defensive line should've been able to wreak havoc all game long, but they couldn't even get to Lagway. Not even once.
Why Pete Kwiatkowski thought it was a good idea to only send four rushers for the entirety of the game is beyond me, but we saw how that turned out.
The Longhorns looked unprepared, unorganized, and unmotivated for 90% of the game on both offense and defense despite having two full weeks to prepare for the matchup. This is pretty much why Sark's response is so incredibly shameful, this entire loss from beginning to end was solely on him and the coaching staff.
