Spence played 23 games and made five starts over the past two seasons for Arkansas' defense. He registered 70 combined tackles, eight tackles for loss, 4.5 sacks, 13 quarterback pressures, one interception (returned for a touchdown), one pass breakup, one fumble recovery, and 35 defensive stops since 2023.
He had a really strong close to the 2024 regular season for the Hogs, ranking as the fifth-highest-graded linebacker in the SEC in the last five weeks of the regular season campaign (per PFF). Spence's biggest game was a career-high 11-tackle, 1.5 tackles for loss, and one-sack game in Arkansas' win over Mississippi State in late October.
Spence registered at least one sack and multiple defensive stops in four of the regular season's final five games for the Hogs' defensive front.
Texas recruited Spence as a former three-star recruit from Houston (TX) Klein Cain High School in the 2022 class. He visited Texas unofficially multiple times during the 2022 offseason. Texas, Cal, and Arkansas were Spence's three finalist schools before he committed to the Hogs in the summer of 2022.
The Longhorns are targeting more depth for the defensive front at the linebacker position in the portal during the winter transfer window. Texas didn't sign that much numbers-wise at linebacker in the past two high school recruiting classes, taking one LB for the 2024 cycle and two in 2025.
Texas's top returning linebackers for the 2025 season are sophomores Anthony Hill Jr. and Liona Lefau.
It was first reported that Spence intended to enter the transfer portal on Dec. 11. He has two years of eligibility remaining.
