$3 million was the price tag that the Texas Longhorns were willing to pay to bring Cam Coleman to the 40 Acres as the most highly touted wide receiver in the transfer portal.

While facing the No. 7 Ole Miss Rebels, the million-dollar wide receiver went down hard on an attempted deep ball from quarterback Arch Manning and eventually was escorted back to the locker room for further evaluation.

Coleman was supposed to be the star of Texas's receiving corps this season, but that has undeniably been Ryan Wingo, who has finally found the right way to play with Manning throwing him the ball.

The preseason hype for Coleman was prolific. Since then, he has fallen short of expectations and has dropped a few passes that looked like sure touchdowns, including against the Rebels in Week 8.

When he landed on his shoulder at the start of the third quarter, resulting in the injury that sent him to the locker room, he dropped the ball, but it was at least somewhat understandable given how hard he hit the ground.

In the first half, Manning threw a perfect deep ball to Coleman, who was a couple of steps ahead of the Ole Miss defender. It slipped through Coleman's hands, and the missed connection eventually led to the Horns having to punt.

Cam Coleman's dropped pass issues haven't changed with a new team

This is an issue that we've seen throughout the season from the millionaire wideout, including a drop shockingly similar to the first-half miss when the Longhorns were facing the Ohio State Buckeyes in Week 2. Luckily, his drop against Ole Miss didn't result in an interception like the one against OSU did.

His problem dropping sure catches, especially near the end zone, was a major problem he faced while with the Auburn Tigers. However, a lot of people blamed it on a lack of consistency at head coach and quarterback.

Consistency with who is throwing the rock or calling the plays isn't a problem at Texas, with Manning and head coach Steve Sarkisian always holding the reins.

Many of these perfectly thrown passes from Manning are hitting Coleman in the hands, and then they're hitting the ground, the wideout failing to haul in the ball on occasion after occasion.

Before heading to the locker room, Coleman had earned just one catch for 12 yards. Meanwhile, Wingo had earned over 100 receiving yards on six catches, scoring the Horns' only receiving touchdown of the game at that point.

Supposed "WR3" Emmett Mosley V had earned 29 receiving yards on two catches, and even tight end Michael Masunas had amassed 19 yards on two catches.

Coleman has fallen well short of expectations, and certainly hasn't looked worthy of a $3 million paycheck.

However, an injury is never something you want to see. For now, we'll have to wait to see what reports from the 40 Acres say, but it didn't look promising that he would return as he headed to the locker room in the third quarter.

With just over three minutes left in the third quarter, Coleman was spotted back on the sidelines, but was wearing street clothes.
