Just a few seconds and one offensive play in the Longhorns' game against the UTEP Miners, Texas running back CJ Baxter made nightmares strike once again.

The redshirt sophomore RB, who just returned to the depth chart after tearing his ACL and LCL last summer, ran the ball on the first play of the game and gained six yards. Then, he got up slowly and was hobbling as he tried to get the attention of the sidelines.

Baxter limped off the field and immediately walked up to the training staff, striking fear into Texas fans everywhere.

For someone who was poised to take over the Texas backfield last season as the RB1, it was devastating for the Longhorns when he injured his knee last year. This season, he was once again expected to be the top running back for the Horns.

Now, it looks like he might be sidelined once again, which is heartbreaking for Texas, even if it is just temporarily.

After he exited, redshirt freshman running back Christian Clark, who also injured his knee last summer, stepped into the game, as did RB4 Jerrick Gibson. Quintrevion Wisner, who split snaps with Baxter against the Ohio State Buckeyes in Week 1, was sidelined for the second and third games of the season with a "lower body" injury.

In the first two games of the year, Baxter confirmed people's hopes, leading Texas with 104 rushing yards and 22 receiving yards.

Baxter walked into the medical tent after walking off the field and was later reported as having walked entirely off the field, heading toward the Longhorns' locker room.

Heading into the UTEP game, zero Texas running backs had found the end zone, and quarterback Arch Manning had the only rushing touchdown.

Halfway through the second quarter, the SEC Network broadcast informed viewers that Baxter had officially been ruled out for the day.
