Per a report from Clarence Hill of AllDlls.com, the Dallas Cowboys will interview Texas football running backs coach Tashard Choice.
Texas football RB coach Tashard Choice being courted by the Dallas Cowboys
The news of Choice interviewing with Dallas comes as new Cowboys' head coach Brian Schottenheimer is working to fill out his coaching staff early this offseason. Schottenheimer replaced former Cowboys head coach Mike McCarthy.
Choice has earned the reputation of being one of the top running backs coaches in college football. He has a great track record of recruiting and developing talented players at the running back position.
Since he took over as Texas's running backs coach ahead of the 2022 season, he has coached up NFL backs for the Longhorns, including Roschon Johnson, Bijan Robinson, and Jonathon Brooks, among others. Texas also had a potential 2025 NFL Draft pick declare from Longhorns' RB room early this offseason, junior Jaydon Blue.
Prior to his tenure as the Texas running backs coach, Choice worked with talented backs with the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets on their staff in the ACC in the same role with early-round NFL Draft pick Jahmyr Gibbs.
Choice, a native of Thomasville, GA, also held roles on staff with the North Texas Mean Green in the mid-to-late 2010s. His first coaching job was as an intern on staff with the Cowboys during the 2016 season in the NFL.
In college, Choice started his career with the Oklahoma Sooners in 2003 and 2004. He rushed for 100 yards as a redshirt freshman for the Sooners in the 2004 season.
Ahead of the 2005 season, Choice transferred back to his home state of Georgia to play out the rest of his college career at Georgia Tech. He had back-to-back 1,000 rushing-yard seasons at Georgia Tech in 2006 and 2007 before getting drafted by the Cowboys in 2008.
Choice played six years in the NFL with the Cowboys, Washington Commanders, Buffalo Bills, and Indianapolis Colts. He rushed for over 1,500 yards and 10 touchdowns in his NFL career.
