Hough HS (Cornelius, NC) 4-star cornerback, Samari Matthews, is officially announcing his collegiate decision tonight at 7:30 pm. Texas football anxiously awaits his decision, as he would be their highest-ranked defensive back recruit in the class as of right now.

Matthews has prototypical size (6'1", 190 lbs) and length for the cornerback position when it comes to the types of athletes that Longhorn DC Pete Kwiatkowski likes to utilize on the boundary. Matthews also has the athleticism and flexibility to play in the slot as well when Texas operates out of Nickel or Dime packages against spread or air raid teams. He's a very scrappy kid as well who's not afraid to step up against the run at the point of attack.

Matthews is reportedly deciding between Texas and South Carolina, with Clemson getting some "love" lately as well. His main point of contact has been Longhorns' new defensive backs coach, Mark Orphey, who came in this offseason to replace Blake Gideon.

Matthews would provide the Longhorns defense with an able-bodied cornerback who could see the field early on in his Texas career if guys like Jordon Johnson-Rubell, Wardell Mack, and Warren Roberson fail to take the next step in their development heading into the 2025 season.
