Chaminade-Madonna defeated West Boca Raton 18-10 during Florida high school football's opening week. CMHS star running back and 2026 Texas football commit Derrek Cooper had a dominant day on the ground, breaking off multiple long runs and leading his team to a close victory.

One of his most exciting plays of the day was this 71-yard touchdown scamper that was unfortunately called back due to an offensive holding call.

At 210-pounds, he runs with an incredible amount of power and seeks out contact on a play-by-play basis. He's a perfect fit for the Longhorns' downhill run game, specifically inside between the tackles. Cooper has the talent, size, and overall skillset to see playing time as a true freshman for Texas in 2026.

Here he is with another powerful run from Thursday's win at West Boca Raton.

His leg-drive and ability to fall forward on 99% of his runs makes him an incredibly intriguing player from a coaching standpoint, and we all know Texas' RBs coach Chad Scott is elated to have him committed. Derrek Cooper was the first person that Scott called from his new office when Sark first hired him in the spring.

Cooper is Texas' only running back commit in the 2026 class as of right now, and there's a chance that it'll stay that way as long as he remains committed throughout the entire process (knock on wood). We look forward to watching him dominate his senior season at Chaminade-Madonna.
