The Texas Longhorns are the No. 6 team in the nation and earned one of the six top seeds for the upcoming Division I Women's Golf Regionals. Despite holding one of the No. 1 seeds, the Horns will have to travel nearly 600 miles for their first round of the tournament.
In fact, all of the top seeds will have to travel away from home. Texas is joined by Stanford, Florida State, Oregon, South Carolina, and Arkansas as the top six teams in the country, all of which are set to tee off in the postseason.
Unlike men's and women's basketball or volleyball, the top seeds do not get the luxury of hosting the first round of the tournament. So, the Longhorns will pack up their clubs and trek to Lubbock for their NCAA opener.

Why did the Texas Longhorns earn a No. 1?
So far this season, the Horns came out on top in three events, led by star golfers Lauren Kim, Farah O'Keefe, and Cindy Hsu.
At the Vanderbilt-hosted Mason Rudolph Championship, Texas finished in first place out of 17 teams. Similarly, the Horns finished atop 14 teams at their home tournament, the Betsy Rawls Invitational. At the NB3 Match Play, Texas toppled both New Mexico State and New Mexico before barely losing to the Stanford Cardinal.
Four times this year, the Longhorns fell to third place by the end of tournaments, including their first-ever appearance in the SEC Championships, only losing to the South Carolina Gamecocks and the LSU Tigers.
When is the NCAA Women's Golf Championship ?
Regional play will take place May 5-7 at six sites, and then the championship will be held from May 16-21 in Carlsbad, CA. Each regional site has 12 teams at the event, as well as six individuals (whose teams did not qualify for the tournament). 30 teams and six individuals advance to the championship.
Texas has never secured the national title but the Longhorns finished as runners-up in both 1993 and 2002.
