Texas football recruiting closed the book for the 2025 class for the Early Signing Period, which included signing the No. 1 ranked class in the nation in the 247Sports Composite when Texas landed Georgia five-star DT Justus Terry in early December.
5-Star priority OT for 2026 John Turntine III is the "must-get" OL top target for Texas football on the trail
The first Junior Day of the upcoming offseason will be the focus for head coach Steve Sarkisian and the Longhorns staff on the trail for the 2026 class in late December and late January. Texas's portal recruiting efforts to fill out the rest of the positional focus needs in the 2025 class for the winter transfers.
With the focus getting put on the trail for the 2026 class at top priority key position prospects in-state in the trenches, Sarkisian and staff are soon to host recruits before spring evals for that cycle for Junior Day in late January or February.
The top priority recruit in-state along the offensive line for the Longhorns in the 2026 class, Fort Worth (TX) North Crowley five-star offensive tackle John Turntine III, is the highest profile prospect for Texas in the trenches for that cycle after missing on five-star Michael Fasusi for 2025.
Turntine has the Longhorns feeling good about their "confidence" in the standing in his recruitment before the upcoming offseason on the recruiting trail for 2026. He's built fantastic relationships with Texas's OL coach Kyle Flood and Sarkisian for 2026.
Flood and the Longhorns have made it clear that Turntine is their highest target in priority, with how often he's been rolled out the red carpet for visits since last offseason. Turntine can be the NFL-caliber offensive tackle as a future starter for the Longhorns in the future in the SEC for left tackle.
Since last offseason, Turntine has visited Texas more than any other school. He's had great experiences on multiple gameday trips to DKR to see the Longhorns.
On3's Chad Simmons made a "way-too-early" prediction that projects Turntine's commitment to the Longhorns in the 2026 class with a confidence level of "medium".
Texas has to fend off competition on the trail from the likes of the LSU Tigers, Texas A&M, Ohio State Buckeyes, Oregon Ducks, etc. I like where Texas stands in this recruitment, and it wouldn't be surprising to see Turntine visit the Longhorns' Junior Day early in the upcoming 2025 offseason.
