ESPN revisits the history of the Texas-Arkansas rivalry ahead of SEC matchup
By Sam Fariss
Throughout the long-lived history of the Texas Longhorns and the Arkansas Razorbacks, the two teams have shared a field 79 times. So far, Texas has walked away victorious 56 times.
As the Horns and the Hogs get ready for their 80th matchup, Texas holds the No. 3 ranking in the nation while Arkansas has struggled to find consistency throughout its season.
Over the first 14 years of the rivalry, Texas won every single game between the two teams. However, the Razorbacks are currently on a two-game win streak, winning in 2014 and 2021. The last matchup between the Longhorns and Hogs was in Steve Sarkisian's first season with Texas and it didn't go well for the Horns.
Now that Texas is in the SEC, the rivalry has been reborn – similar to the Lone Star Showdown between Texas and Texas A&M – and the Longhorns are looking for a little redemption.
In 2021, Arkansas blew the roof off of Texas' offense and walked away with a 40-21 victory over the Longhorns. This time around, Texas had a massive upper hand but the Hogs had already upset the then-No. 4 Tennessee Volunteers when they visited Fayetteville.
The ESPN College GameDay crew broke down the differences between the two teams ahead of the matchup, pointing out Texas' elite abilities in the secondary but pointing out that Arkansas head coach Sam Pittman loves to upset teams... especially the Texas Longhorns.
While Kirk Herbstreit, Lee Corso, Nick Saban, Pat McAfee, Rece Davis, and Desmond Howard couldn't come to a definitive prediction for the game quite yet, the Horns and Hogs look as ready as ever to play in a hate-filled rivalry. Texas and Arkansas are scheduled to kick off at noon ET / 11 a.m. CT on ABC and ESPN+
