Even Texas fans who love The Bubble have to applaud the Horns' new practice facility

I grew up with The Bubble as my backyard.

Well, not literally... But I grew up in Austin and have such vivid memories of pulling up to the Texas Longhorns' practice facilities with my grandfather to watch Mack Brown whip the team into shape.

The Bubble has stood on the corner of Red River and Dean Keaton for the last two and a half decades, and it didn't take long for it to become a staple of Texas's campus.

Now, however, the Longhorns have gotten an upgrade, and it came in the form of an $80 million training complex that features not only a new indoor field, but a new outdoor field as well. Plus, it isn't right along the interstate highway that runs along the side of the Horns' current practice facilities.

Simply put, this is a premier improvement for one of the premier athletic programs in the country, and no matter how much any of us love The Bubble, it was time for the upgrade to happen.

Horns hold ribbon-cutting for Frank and Wofford Denius Texas Football Training Complex

On Friday, just over 24 hours before the Horns kicked off their 2026 season, the team held a ribbon-cutting ceremony for the Frank and Wofford Denius Texas Football Training Complex, with head coach Steve Sarkisian, Athletic Director Chris Del Conte, and a handful of other University representatives in attendance.

While Sarkisian had shared earlier in the week that he and the team hadn't exactly waited for the ceremony to make use of their new digs, the eagerness to continue breaking in the facility was readily apparent on Friday.

The entire team showed up well before the ceremony even ended to get their pre-game walk-through underway, with quarterback Arch Manning making the rounds to greet and thank those in attendance.

One of the biggest differences? Other than the newness of it all, that is. Well, it's the fact that there's more than one doorway into the facility, something that has plagued the efficiency of the Horns' moving from indoor to outdoor (and vice versa) practices in the past.

Yes, The Bubble holds a lot of memories and a lot of winning programs within its... "walls," but it was well past time for a change.

Plus, the new complex still holds the namesake of the Frank Denius Fields, which was the name of the fields at the Bubble and along Red River Street.

The new training complex is undeniably one of the best in the country, and it is just another step in the right direction for Texas football. While practice may not make perfect, perfect practice makes you a whole lot better.
